The Mother’s Day is coming. The majority of countries celebrate this day on the second Sunday of May. In fact, Mother’s Day is the best way to make every mom feel loved.

I am planning to prepare some nice and delicious Italian dessert for that occasion. I picked three great desserts variations with ricotta filling which I’d wish to cook but I feel that can make only one.

1) Baked cheesecake

p1_1This cake recipe originates from Southern Italy and is baked in a rich shortcrust pastry base flavoured with lemon and has a wonderful light ricotta taste. The ricotta cheesecake is enriched with tangy orange and lemon rind.

2) Cassata alla Siciliana

p1_2The cake with chocolate icing is the Italian name of a beautiful and famous rich cake. The Cassata is a sponge cake filling with a ricotta cheese and covered by a rich chocolate icing. It has a full flavour of orange and chocolate.

3) Cannoli with ricotta filling

p1_3Cannoli is a very famous Italian dessert. Canolli is the fried pastry rolls with a delicious filling made from sweet ricotta, chocolate and candied fruits. The filling may also include nuts, fruits so it welcomes any creativity.

So the question is:

Which Italian dessert is the best for Mothers Day?

  • Baked cheesecake (55.0%, 6 Votes)
  • Cassata alla Siciliana (36.0%, 4 Votes)
  • Cannoli with ricotta filling (9.0%, 1 Votes)
  • Other ideas (0.0%, 0 Votes)

Total Voters: 11

Hahahaha I voted for cannolli, but I seem to be the only one :(
Cannolli are my mom’s absolute favourite treat, so that’s why I voted for them. But I actually think the torta di ricotta might be better, just because it might be nice to have a slice after brunch and this cake lends itself well to that. My mom also adores this cake, so I vote for it as well!
Another idea might be a really rustic torta di melle, with nice juicy apple chunks inside, which you can make the day ahead so it gets super moist and flavourful!
